Household robots for service obtain more and more attention at home and abroad recently. The household robot for service is made of motion control module, navigation and orientation module, sensory module, intelligent surveillance module and interface module.
The robots have the following functions
- Autonomous running in the room
- Navigation and orientation
- Motion planning and obstacle avoidance
- Video Monitoring
- Talking with the master
- Abnormal sound detecting
- Gas giveaway, fire and smoking alarming
In this project, we propose to develop intelligent household robots for security and service, which is the application of service robot interaction technology in specific areas related to intelligent household interaction. This technology is important for countries like China which will face the ageing problem soon. As western countries are already facing the problem, it is of great importance for both China and developed countries to make joint research efforts in solving it using intelligent technologies. Our first research direction is to enable the robots to talk with old people and understand the intention of old people through multimodal techniques (language, gesture, expression, etc). The second direction is to detect abnormal behavior for surveillance. (eg. old people fall on the floor or thieves break into the house, etc.)
